Application: Leading Organizational Change

Organizational change is inevitable. In some cases, it can lead to professional growth, motivated employees, and new ways of thinking. However, in other cases it can lead to demoralized employees, low job satisfaction, and diminished productivity. The leader plays an important role in either outcome. Successful leaders are able to rally employees to embrace changes, and help those who are resistant to cope with change.

In this assignment, you explore the role of the public or nonprofit leader in the successful implementation of organizational change.

For this assignment, review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider major types of changes that affect public and nonprofit organizations. Identify an organization with which you are familiar. Then select one type of change that may or has occurred in that organization, and consider a leader’s role in successfully implementing this change in the organization you identified. Reflect on the challenges related to the implementation of this change.

The assignment: (2–3 pages)

  • Describe a public or nonprofit organization with which you are familiar.
  • Describe one type of change that has or may occur that might affect this public or nonprofit organization and explain why.
  • Describe at least two challenges that might arise during the implementation of change. Then, explain how a leader might address each.

Be sure to support your assignment with specific references to the resources and other current literature in the Walden Library. Use at least two scholarly sources from the library that were published within the past 5 years to support your paper.
