In your view, is the extent of social inequality in the United States helpful or harmful to society as a whole? Explain. Contrast social mobility in developing and industrialized nations. Do you think the differences will eventually disappear? Why or why not? Answer I believe the extent of inequality in the United State is harmful to society as a whole. One of the major examples of this inequality includes the economy. If wealth is very unevenly distributed in a society, wealthy people often end up in control of many aspects of the lives of poorer citizens. Some other examples would be gender and health care. In health care, some individuals with better income receive better and more professional care compared to an individual with low income. Contrast social mobility in developing and the industrialized nation is different and I believe it will disappear eventually because each individual has a desire not only to have a better way of living but also wants to improve upon his/her social stand. Such motivation and efforts on the part of the individual social mobility are possible.
