Please reply to this discussion post offering one or more additional interaction strategies in support of the examples/observations shared or by offering further insight to the thoughts shared about the future of these interactions. As specialists in the collection, access, and application of data, nurse informaticists collaborate with specialists on a regular basis to ensure that appropriate data is available to make decisions and take actions to ensure the general well-being of patients. As a triage nurse, using data is a very important key, to perform and obtain optimum results. As I mention on my first post, charting is the number one key in the nursing field. Nursing informatics and technology really make our job more organized and minimize medical error. Years ago, when there was no technology in the nursing field, the medical errors due to spelling and handwriting were one of the main causes of the errors. Now that they implemented the informatics to our field a lot of those errors has been reduced. I must say that having the EMR (electronic medical records) makes me more comfortable at the time of doing my charting at work. It give me more comfortability knowing that my charting is property recorded. In 2008, The American Nursing Association defined Nursing Informatics as “A specialty that integrates nursing science and computer science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. Much has changed since nursing informatics (NI) became an established nursing specialty practice. The scope of practice statements and standards of practice have been revised at 5-year increments to reflect the changing expectations and evolution in nursing and informatics practice. A new resource describing the contemporary scope of practice statement and standards of NI practice has just been released. NTIL recently, nursing informatics (NI) was one of the lesser known nursing specialties, even though it’s been a recognized specialty for over 30 years.
