The main barrier to implementing change is the culture of the military. It is constantly changing. People promote, deployments, retire or separate from the military. It can be very inconsistent. I cannot wait to have a personal doctor who has known me for more than two visits and know when I complain of pain, I am really really in pain. This is also the issue with servicemen, their medical staff do not have the time to get to know them, to know something is off or not right. Most military personnel do not stay in one base for over four years and medical staff it is even less. I am not sure there is anything I can overcome on these barriers except to preserver in my bringing awareness and changing the questions on their questionnaires.

Another barrier is that I will be moving, so what I see as a potential issue on this base may not be a big factor in the base I will be going to. This base only has a small clinic and mostly refers out to the community whereas the base I am moving to has a large hospital on the base and utilizes nurses more so the dynamics of utilizing nurses more in the community may not be needed as much as it is here on the base I am in now. I will have to see how they manage awareness of PTSD with spouses and do what I can to bring awareness in the community. I would love to expand it to civilian hospitals and clinics to educate the staff how to take care of military patients.
